MTV Gets Bashed For Guido Show

Cast of the "Jersey Shore"

MTV Networks have received an overwhelming response to its newest spinoff of the popular Real World style reality program, and no it’s not a good one!

Italian Americans are fuming at the depiction of twenty-something guidos and guidettes on the network’s newest series “Jersey Shore.” Many Jersey residents are flattered to have their otherwise boring state receive some recognition, but they take issue with the montage of orange fake tans, steroid muscled out men in shirts so tight if they take a deep breath it could split at the seems, and gallons of hair gel that is applied to act more like hair cement.

With advertisers getting spooked by outraged consumers, the show could lose more than two sponsorships it onceboasted. With Domino’s Pizza pulling out over complaints that the show portrayed a stereotype, big players like Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret and T-Mobile might look for the door if the publicized gripping continues at this rate.

The criticism, while founded, is a double standard. Where is the outcry when African Americans are portrayed ‘ghetto’ or when Latinos are lumped in the category of “Mexican”? Anyone can sympathize with being portrayed in an inaccurate matter, but in this case, the guido isn’t a stereotype, its a lifestyle that many young people make. If they didn’t look like gelled carrots on ‘roids walking around, they wouldn’t get called that.
